Benefit Honoring Paul Volcker Nets Over 3/4 of a Million Dollars for CP Research

Benefit Honoree, Former CPIRF Chairman Paul A. Volcker

Paul A. Volcker, former Chairman of the Economic Recovery Advisory Board under President Obama and prior Chairman of the Federal Reserve under Presidents Carter and Reagan was honored for his many years of service to CPIRF at a gala benefit which netted $779,000 for further research and educational activities to improve the lives of those with cerebral palsy and related developmental disabilities.

As part of his closing remarks, Mr. Volcker recognized the dedicated service of CPIRF Executive Committee Chairman and past President James C. Stearns and former Medical Director Dr. Murray Goldstein by announcing his establishment of two new research and program awards named in honor of each of them.

The dinner was hosted by prominent financial journalist Ron Insana, CNBC and MSNBC contributor and host of national radio show, the Market Scoreboard Reports. Comedian Josh Blue, former winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, who lives with CP, also delivered a special performance at the event.

Most treatments for cerebral palsy (CP) are initially directed toward children. What is not clearly established is the long- term effects of such treatments.
