In Memoriam: CPIRF Board Member, Bonny Dore
CPIRF mourns the passing of Bonny Dore, a loyal and inspirational supporter who served on our board of directors for many years until her untimely passing on February 1, 2013. Bonny was an accomplished and respected entertainment industry executive who as President of her own television production company, Bonny Dore Productions, Inc., produced numerous award-winning television network and cable mini-series, movies of the week, and series.
Although her professional accomplishments were numerous, her impact upon CPIRF was equally impressive. Bonny generously gave of her time and talent, helping to raise awareness and hundreds of thousands of dollars in advancing our research mission through the committees she served on and the dinners she chaired. The cerebral palsy research community and CPIRF have lost a true friend who will always be admired and never forgotten.
CPIRF extends its deepest condolences to her husband, Sandy Astor, also a CPIRF board member, and to Bonny’s and Sandy’s many friends and family members. Mr. Astor has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to CPIRF in Bonny’s memory.
Most treatments for cerebral palsy (CP) are initially directed toward children. What is not clearly established is the long- term effects of such treatments. Many appear helpful in the short term but prove to be disadvantageous in the long run. Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is a permanent, irreversible neurosurgical procedure for reducing spasticity in cerebral palsy.
